Thematic Areas Of Intervention
The development philosophy of EHD has based on its core approach that community is the nucleus, and society cannot Develop without women development which helps us design programmatic development agenda around the basic and strategic needs including fundamental rights of the people, especially women, those who are unheard and disadvantaged. Following thematic focus areas are the bases of the organizational programs/initiatives.
Speedy justice/ Legal Protection for women and marginalized community including PWDs and transgender
EHD is providing free legal aid to women deprived and disadvantaged groups with the support of different partners. Not only free legal aid to disadvantaged groups is given from legal aid centers but also awareness sessions with rural community members on laws related to women in Pakistan, seminars on legal/ entitled rights of women , and training of lawyers and police departments are part of the legal protection program. For mass mobilization, specific translated publications and radio programs are conducted by the organization.
Women Rights ( stop violence against women)
EHD strongly advocates equal rights for all citizens of Pakistan without any discrimination. From the restoration of democracy and the judiciary to religious extremism, kidnapping, and forced conversion of religious minorities, EHD has consistently objected to and campaigned against rights violations. in Case of women issues in South Punjab women are not only deprived from education but also facing gender based violence, domestic violence and discrimination, EHD is not only raising the voice but also providing free legal aid services to stop all king of violence against women.
Promotion of Girl’s Education in Rural area of south Punjab/Child rights/Girl’s Child
In South Punjab due to poverty and illiteracy child rights are badly neglected especially of girl’s child. Discrimination with girls is on peak due to social orthodoxies. EHD is not only conducting awareness sessions in rural area but also conducting meetings with parents to highlight the importance of the girl’s education. For this enrollment campaign is initiated twice in the year and record is maintained in school registers. Restoration of school building from landlords clutches to renovation of the school building, activation of the school councils to celebration of children’s day is initiated by EHD.
Youth Groups in Rural area to promote peace and security for women and young girls
In rural areas of Muzaffargarh and in Multan more than 200 volunteer youth are trained on gender rights and human rights to work as dog watches in their area to highlight the issues of women violence cases like early child marriage, exchange marriage honor killing issues. These volunteers work in groups on the village level. Cricket competitions to a few day camps of the youth members are conducted which is very necessary for south Punjab youth where extremism/Talibanization is spreading very speedily. For youth members, computer centers are arranged in villages where youth members are learning computer skills on their doorsteps.
Bounded Labor issue in brick kiln industry and Human trafficking in Pakistan
Labour rights have always been a priority for EHD. We work for working-class people’s right to a decent livelihood through lobbying with government departments and ministries; capacity building of grass-root organizations, trade, and labor unions; awareness-raising activities, and research work. Special emphasis is laid upon female workers, bonded labor, and workers of the informal sector. EHD believes that for rights to be achieved, the laborers of the world need to be united. This belief has resulted in an organized struggle for labor rights in South Asia and beyond.
Gender equality to prevent violence extremism
EHD strongly believes that without gender equality society cannot move on with peace Almost in every project implementation and programmatic theme gender is the cross-cutting theme of EHD work, from legal aid support to worker’s rights, child rights to democracy campaign and humanitarian response in every move priority is the gender equality for EHD.
Humanitarian response and support to women in disaster situation
EHD is the member of START network international, NEAR network international and NHN in Pakistan, EHD is provincial chair organization of Punjab in NHN , being part of south Punjab facing the humanitarian crises due to climate change is common, previously in 2010 flood and recently in 2022 flood, EHD not only fulfil its responsibility of coordination but also provide support and services to flood effected community and women remained the focus of the EHD.
